The President Invites Families of Injured Guard Members to the White House
President Trump stated on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the White House.
He mentioned that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Shooting
US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Vigils across the state have been held in their memory.
Presidential Invitation
The president stated he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump told reporters. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Support
Attendees came together over the past few days at a local school in the state to remember Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been working with the state guard as part of Trump’s national effort to assist public safety in the capital.
Remembering the Soldier
“Sarah was the individual that teachers desired. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that encouraged people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of her previous school, stated to the Associated Press. “She was caring, caring and always willing to assist people.”
Memorial details for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Legal Measures and Government Changes
Law enforcement have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The event caused the government to pause refugee claims and temporarily stop issuing entry permits to holders of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, started his military career in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Morrisey said on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi informed the program that she also intended to visit his relatives.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with honor, according to the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had courage,” he addressed the crowd at the service. “Though her life ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
