The Latest Relaxed Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable adjustments:
- Every squad includes just eight human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities done by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.
In short, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides more options for gamers looking for different methods to enjoy the title. But, if video games have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.
Player Responses: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while someone else details everything they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Player Input
All that said, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
