Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's expected for doubts to be asked about his position after another convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 games, marking the club's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received significant support from management,” the coach stated.

“It would be great to change things and get a victory of course but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He continued, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we improved our results.”

Talks with Club Management

Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach said:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”

He added, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”

Persistent Problems and Squad Response

Slot highlighted recurring failings from his squad in their European loss, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder stated.

“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He added, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a period like this with results so bad.”

He concluded, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to compete.”

“We will attempt to get this team return to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”

“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
