Paceman Atkinson Compounds the English team's Fitness Concerns.

'Major setback' for the touring side as Atkinson leaves the field suffering a hamstring problem.

The pace bowler added to the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the ground early on day two of the Boxing Day Test versus the Australians.

Atkinson pulled up with his left leg post-delivery in his spell on Saturday.

The touring camp indicated Atkinson felt some "soreness" and would spend time on the sidelines in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".

The final Test of the series at the SCG starts at the end of the week.

The English side has previously lost fast bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer to a side strain on this Ashes tour.

A replacement bowler was brought into the squad as injury reinforcement.

The seamer had a tough time in the opening two Tests, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was omitted from the previous Test, only to be brought back for the Boxing Day match as Archer's replacement.

The county bowler improved at the MCG, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, then making 28 as a batsman as one of just three England players who passed ten runs.

After bowling one over at the end of day one, he returned the next day and removed Scott Boland edging to the keeper.

Yet, at the end of that over, he delivered a slower ball to Travis Head and immediately felt at his leg.

Atkinson was brought back for the Melbourne match after being left out the previous Test.
