New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will be OK after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during their latest talk.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”

The coach did not know when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.

“Don’t know just yet,” the coach said. “However, I can share, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD issued security footage Monday of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and authorities said it’s not clear if Boyd was the intended victim. No other injuries according to reports.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday about halfway between Madison Square Garden and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, in his late twenties, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn remarked. “I thought of his spouse, worrying about his newborn and I hope he recovers fully. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd hasn’t played this season, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with a shoulder injury that required surgery.

He joined the Jets as a free agent in March and was expected to be a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on August 2 and had to be helped off.

Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn commented. “I mean, he is a regular at our matches. His commitment is total. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in last year and later was with the Texans subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract for $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
