Jurgen Klopp says a return to coach Liverpool is plausible in theory.

The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, indicated that returning someday is an option. Klopp, post a game-changing near-decade reign featuring a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown for three decades, currently occupies roles overseeing worldwide football with the Red Bull group and providing guidance to Germany's league body.

Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks

They secured the Premier League in the previous campaign, but many fans who adore the manager would be thrilled by the idea that he might come back one day. During an extensive chat, he told the podcast host: “I declared I refuse to lead a different club on English soil. Which implies should it be the Reds...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”

“I’m 58, that means the choice could be mine down the line, I don’t know. Do I have to make the decision today? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe how things unfold.”

Conditions for a Comeback

When asked about what circumstances would have to unfold to draw him back to the dugout, he confessed he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he stated. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing under bad weather for lengthy sessions; I'm glad to skip interviews four times, three times a week or constant media duties a week.

“No nostalgia for the changing area per se, yet sharing a meal alongside the squad talking freely, that’s nice. We won a lot of games so there was often positive atmosphere around the place. I still have Van Dijk's laughter in my ear for example.”

Commending Arne Slot

He commended of the current boss, acknowledging his role due to the changes that won the league last campaign. The team has suffered four in a row in every contest post heavy investment, though he denied the idea of it representing a decline.

“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, superb talent. They have a strong thoughtfully assembled roster. No need for concern about Liverpool, things will improve.”

Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward

The manager expressed deep feeling on the loss of Jota, whom he brought in while in charge, and the effect on Liverpool. The forward died tragically in a road accident together with his sibling this past summer.

“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? It’s not about his on-field talent, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the team environment absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss about it. A devastating blow for the entire squad too. No one within the club would cite it for poor performances yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Dealing with that on a personal level is not easy. Impossible.”
