Followers Demand Arrest of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of the actress are demanding that a man who leaped a fence and seized the actress during the recent Wicked: For Good debut be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared video depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen shoving aside camera operators and charging at Grande while the actors walked down a event pathway accompanied by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being detained", though legal records showed that he was set to be present on the following morning. It is not clear if he was charged.
Pattern of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a concert or event. His Instagram account includes recordings of him disrupting other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in June this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last year.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is clearly a punishable act," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" another Instagram user remarked.
Fans Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Well-being
Several fans criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed suffering from PTSD after a devastating incident at the end of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding numerous individuals.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said a further message on Instagram.
A number of supporters also questioned security officers at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while some requested social media platforms to block Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Event Details
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande looked surprised when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the premiere activities continued without further issues.
Many of fans had gathered in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore venue, including some who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it started.
The motion picture, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a two-film adaptation of the well-known theatrical show Wicked, which revolves around the surprising bond between two distinct witches.
The show itself is a derivative of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a light pink glittering gown at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble embroidered with roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of the previous year in the UK, and scored 10 Academy Award nods, securing several for excellent wardrobe and production design.
